Assessing the Impact of the Olmstead Decision

Abstract

The Supreme Court’s 1999 Olmstead Decision represents a significant change in the scope of service delivery for individuals with disabilities.  Moreover, it continues to be the driving force behind the nationwide shift in focus towards consumer choice and community integration.  This analysis will focus on the impact of the Olmstead Decision on the disabled population, service provision, and the community at large.
